Carmen C Kruse is an Austrian-German stage director who began her career at Opera Australia in 2010. During her studies of Opera and Innovation at Macromedia University in Munich, she held positions at Florida Grand Opera and San Diego Opera. In 2014, she witnessed SDOpera’s crisis and saving first-hand, which highly influenced her decision to pursue a career in opera directing and to focus on creating opera and new works with an impact. In recent years Carmen has assisted directors such as David Alden, Jossi Wieler, Vera Nemirova and Anselm Dalferth and worked at places such as The Salzburg Easter Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatstheater Mainz and Oper Stuttgart where she is a member of the permanent staff as assistant director starting this 2017/18 season. Carmen assisted Nina Scott-Stoddart at HSOF production of Rodelinda last year and is making her directorial debut at Halifax Summer Opera Festival.
