Nicholas Gilmore is currently the Artistic Director and Conductor of Heartland Opera Theatre in Joplin, Missouri, the Principal Conductor and Music Director of Loveland Opera Theatre in Loveland, Colorado, Rehearsal Conductor of the Aurora Symphony in the Denver Metro-Area, and the Assistant Conductor of the University of Northern Colorado Symphony Orchestra where he is pursuing his doctorate in Orchestral Conducting and Opera Studies under Dr. Russell Guyver. Gilmore spent 2014 spring semester as Director of Orchestras at the UNC in a sabbatical replacement for Dr. Guyver.
Gilmore has served on the faculty at Missouri Southern State University and Crowder College, teaching private horn, voice, vocal diction and literature, and introductory music history courses, in addition to conducting and coaching large and small ensembles. He has guest conducted symphonic, opera, musical theatre, and ballet performances in Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, and Canada. Gilmore is a frequent adjudicator for music festivals in the midwest and was invited to speak at the Missouri Music Educators’s State Conference on fundraising and program building in 2012. In 2010 Gilmore received a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Award for “Excellence in Music Direction and Conducting” for his work on George Gershwin’s Lady be Good!. He holds a BM in Horn Performance and an MM in Instrumental Conducting from Wichita State University, where he was named the Dora Wallace Hodgson Outstanding Masters Student in 2009.
