Shanice Skinner is a soprano hailing from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance in 2017. Shanice was Nova Scotia’s alto selection for the 2014 National Youth Choir, which took place in her home province. She was again selected for the 2016 National Youth Choir tour in Alberta but as Nova Scotia’s soprano. During the 2016 tour, Shanice performed the soprano solo in the world premiere of Kristofer Fulton’s O Seeker of Dreams at The Winspear in Edmonton, Alberta. In July of 2016, Shanice attended the Franco-American Vocal Academy opera program in Périgueux, France, performing the role of Gustave in Offenbach’s Pomme d’Api. Throughout her degree, Shanice has performed scene work with Opera Laurier in the roles of Giulietta in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann, Kitty Hart in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and Cendrillon in Massenet’s Cendrillon. Shanice is a 2016 and 2018 Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship recipient, and was the 2016 special award winner of the Portia White Award.
