From musical theatre to romantic opera, from art song to Broadway, HSOF has something for everyone!

MAINSTAGE OPERAS

CENDRILLON  – by Jules Massenet – Very romantic, very French, this is one of Massenet’s most beautiful scores and a really family friendly fairy tale opera! Projected English translations. Fully-staged and costumed and accompanied by piano.

STREET SCENE – Kurt Weill’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical (based on Elmer Rice’s Pulitzer-Prize winning play) tells the interconnected stories of a New York tenement building. Fully-staged and costumed and accompanied by piano.

SUSANNAH – One of the greatest American opera, this is Carlisle Floyd’s masterpiece. Short and packed with accessible, passionate music.  Fully-staged and costumed and accompanied by piano.

SPECIAL CONCERTS

Opera Backwards: a very queer show — Thursday July 23, 7:30 pm at The Bus Stop Theatre, 2203 Gottingen Street

Musical Theatre Concert — Saturday August 1, 7:30 pm at the Lillian Piercey Concert Hall at the Maritime Conservatory of the Performing Arts.

In The Beginning Was The Word: An Evening With Emily Dickinson — Thursday August 6, 6:30 pm at the Paul O’Regan Hall at the Halifax Central Library. Music director Tara Scott, stage director and creator David Mosey. FREE

LECTURE SERIES

Join us for a three part, free noon hour lecture recital series at the Paul O’Regan Hall at the Halifax Central Library on July 28, 29 and 30. More details

MASTERCLASSES

Watch four experienced performers work with six young singers over the course of two hours. All our masterclasses are open to the public. Tickets are $10 each for auditors. All masterclasses take place in Room 121 in the basement of the Dalhousie Arts Centre.
