Costs

What is the Workshop fee?

The fee for the 2021 workshop will be $1975 Canadian per person. The fee includes all artistic costs, including coachings, acting classes, rehearsals and masterclasses.

Deposit

A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 7 days of your receipt of our digital package which will include a letter of agreement. You may pay this deposit via bank transfer, credit card  or PayPal).  This deposit, of course, counts towards your total fee.

Payment Installments

Second installment is due by March 15, 2021.

Final installment is due by April 15, 2021.

These two installments can be paid by cheque, money order, bank transfer or credit card (through PayPal). They are non-refundable unless we can recast your role and recoup the lost income.

HSOF charges a $20 application fee which is payable at the time of making your application.  This can be paid via PayPal.

NB: All fees are payable in Canadian dollars.

What other costs should I take into consideration?

The workshop fee covers all your tuition, standard coaching time, masterclasses and other scheduled workshop activities.  You’ll need to budget for travel to Halifax (which is well served by an excellent international airport), plus your accommodation and food/entertainment.

Does HSOF offer any scholarships?

We have a limited number of bursaries or scholarships to offer to potential participants who can demonstrate both financial need and artistic excellence. You’ll be given a link to the Financial Aid Form after you’ve completed your application to HSOF.

Do you have some suggestions about accommodation in Halifax?

If you need a place to stay in Halifax, we recommend first checking out sites for sublets.  Even though you’d only be subletting for a month, there are often people who are happy to get even a month’s subletting over the summer.

If you’re a student, you can obtain a room in Dalhousie’s Summer Residence Accommodation. These are on campus and so are very close to where all rehearsals and performances are held.  We’ve negotiated a special rate as of 2017: $16.50/night + tax for a minimum of 30 nights. That’s about $600 Canadian dollars.  You can contact Festival Manager Patricia Vinluan at patricia@halifaxsummeroperafestival.com for more info.

There’s also summer residence accommodation at St Mary’s University (less than a km away from the Workshop location at Dal)
