What is the 2024 repertoire?
The 2024 Halifax Summer Opera Festival will run from July 20 to August 18, 2024. We will produce two operas, Menotti’s The Consul and Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto.
Who can apply to HSOF?
The Halifax Summer Opera Festival is open to all performers, regardless of nationality or age.
We are committed to diverse, inclusive casting. For every role we seek qualified performers, without regard to race, age, color, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity, within the confines of voice types (and sometimes not even then!) We encourage trans singers to apply.
How much does it cost to attend HSOF as an artist?
The fee for the 2024 workshop will be $2300 CAD per person. The fee includes all artistic costs, including coachings, acting/movement and audition classes, rehearsals and masterclasses.
This does not include housing and travel.
Is there an age limit for the programme?
No. We accept singers of all ages, depending on the role and the nature of the opera.
Does HSOF offer any financial support?
We have a very limited number of bursaries and scholarships to help you pay for part of the programme. We very rarely offer a full scholarship. To apply, please indicate on the application form that you’ll need some financial assistance to attend, and then fill in the Financial Aid form.
