Ermanno Mauro: an evening of Italian opera featuring La bohème
Thursday August 7, 7:30 pm
Italian Canadian Cultural Association
Don’t miss your opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest tenors, Ermanno Mauro, in our Grand Opera Gala featuring the music of Puccini and Verdi. Ermanno Mauro has enjoyed a life and career at the very pinnacle of opera, in the golden age of the 1970s – 1990s. His career took him to every major opera company in Canada and the world, including a stint as house tenor with Covent Garden. Ermanno made his unofficial Metropolitan Opera debut in 1978, when he replaced Jon Vickers in Pagliacci, singing Canio to Louis Quilico’s Tonio, and made his official debut there later that year as Radames in Aida. He sang hundreds of times at the Met. Ermanno is a great teacher of the old school, and carefully tends his voice for a few select engagements every year.
Ermanno will be joined by young singers from the Halifax Summer Opera Festival in a variety of numbers, including the entire last act of Puccini’s La bohème, which will be performed by the participants, rigorously coached by Ermanno himself. Ermanno himself will take the role of Rodolfo in this excerpt!
Tickets $25/20/$10.
