HSOF 2014 – Get Involved!

As the Halifax Summer Opera Festival enters its 10th season, I am struck not only by how much the festival has grown, but also how many people have been involved in the creation and presentation of such amazing productions over the years.  2014 will be no exception to this – HSOF 2014 will have its highest ever number of participants, staff, and volunteers.

If you want to become involved in HSOF 2014, there is still ample opportunity to do so! Here are just some of the ways you can:

Singers:

There are still a few  roles available, as HSOF tries to double-cast all roles.  Available roles include  Curio (bass) and chorus positions in Giulio Cesare with Baroque orchestra, The Prince (tenor), Second Wood Sprite (soprano), and Gamekeeper (tenor) in Rusalka, and Rapunzel (soprano), Stepmother (mezzo), and Lucinda (mezzo) in Into the Woods.  In addition to these mainstage programs, HSOF has created a new, two week scenes program, which is still accepting applicants from sopranos and mezzos.  Visit the 2014 Program page to learn more!

Interns:

HSOF has a number of intern positions available, including assistant stage manager, assistant director, and assistant producer/administrator.  HSOF is extremely fortunate to have top quality professional staff.  Internships are an excellent opportunity to learn from these experts, gain additional professional experience, and build a stronger resume. Visit our Internship Program page to learn more.

Volunteers:

HSOF will need a number of volunteers throughout the workshop.  Individuals can help with tasks such as putting up posters and distributing flyers, assisting as a greeter at the door during concerts, working with our costumers to create the costumer used on stage, and more.  If you are interested in volunteering with HSOF 2014, please email Teema.

Hosts:

A number of HSOF staff and participants require hosting for either all or part of the workshop.  If you or any of your contacts can assist HSOF by providing a bed (or more!) to one of our participants or staff, please email Teema. All hosts receive complimentary tickets to their guest’s performance, as well as free HSOF membership for a year.

If there is another way that you would like to participate that isn’t listed here, email Marja with the details.

As always, HSOF’s thanks (and mine!) to everyone who has participated in our success, be it as a singer, an audience member, a donor, volunteer, staff member, or other. Each and every one has played an integral part in the success of the Halifax Summer Opera Festival.
