Born and raised in a small town in Delaware, Taylor began to sing when she was a very small child. At the age of six, she was introduced to a choir teacher who taught her how to read music, and how to sing simple songs. However, high school was where Taylor began to take music and singing much more seriously. In fact, she returned to the very same choir teacher who helped her read music as a child, except this time, Taylor was taught classical repertoire and was offered advice on her future education. Today Taylor is a master’s student at Temple University in Philadelphia. Taylor understands that opera as an art has faced challenges in the past decade, and that “the culture of the theatre has changed and that dissuades many potential audience members. But the art itself is still beautiful.” She understands exactly how to bring new life to opera, while maintaining the fundamental aspects of the classic art form.
